A selection of scanned original photos from my father-in-law's time in the Antarctic during the late 1940's where he served as a radio operator.
Tough times. I have nothing but admiration for anyone who has spent time in these conditions. I know a number of climbing acquaintances who have spent a year doing stints supporting the BASE team but the conditions and kit now are a world away from what I see in these pictures......
....oh, and Allan, a tie????? In the Antarctic?!
